Camas-based semiconductor and fiber laser provider nLIGHT announced Monday the company has secured a $34.5 million contract supporting the U.S. Army’s Rapid Capabilities Critical Technologies Office.
The company will spend roughly 18 months creating a high-energy laser for the office’s Directed Energy Maneuver-Short Range Air Defense prototyping effort.
The air defense program is part of the Army’s broader modernization strategy for air and missile defense. It focuses on integrating a 50kW-class laser weapon system onto an armored Stryker fighting vehicle to defend against unmanned aircraft systems; rockets, artillery and mortar; and rotary- and fixed-wing aircraft. nLIGHT will be a subcontractor for KORD Technologies LLC, the prime contractor for the project.
nLIGHT trades on the Nasdaq as LASR. Its stock closed Monday at $12.95 per share, up from $11.39 per share Friday.
